Lucky’s Lake Swim
When I went to Orlando at the beginning of May I asked about any swims in the area. I quickly learnt about Lucky’s Lake Swim at Lake Cane. Of I went early on a Monday morning, in an Uber. When I say early, it was before 6am and still dark. Of course being Orlando the Uber was there quickly and so we drove to the lake. The driver had some problem finding the correct house and so he wouldn’t let me out until he found it. I thought that was pretty good.
So Joe set me up with the waiver form and told me to just swim out on the left side of the buoys and back on the right and that it was 1km. Everyone else arrived – I chatted with some others from both the States and overseas. The water was nice and warm and there were about 40 people. I did across and back and then decided to do another two laps. It was really nice in the water and so fresh and relaxing.
Did I mention yet how peaceful it was to swim – so nice and peaceful prior to getting in the water. Perhaps that is why it is such a special swim.
It was so nice I went back out for another lap. My GPS said 2.2 or so km and as I have the 10% rule I get to claim the extra metres. Yay for me! Afterwards I got to sign the wall of fame at Lucky’s house – did I mention the swim is actually in someone’s back yard – it begins at his lakefront and then goes to across Lake Cane and back. So generous to do this for everyone – and it’s on six days a week.
After I got out of the water I did see the large carp – I might not have gotten in if I knew how big they were. And yes, I could feel them occasionally when swimming. Or at least I assume it was carp that I felt.
So I swam 2.2km (just over) and that means I now have 33.5km left to swim this year. I’ve been working on this though.
Final words: would I go back to Lake Cane and Lucky’s – you betcha. In a heartbeat – pity it is so far away.
